Employees at Florida Power & Light’s Turkey Point nuclear plant near
Miami heard a “loud bang” on Thursday, when a valve carrying water
closed without warning. The incident turned off one of the reactor’s
cooling systems. “The situation did not impact our ability to operate
safely,” said FPL spokesperson Mike Waldron. “The noise was caused by the
two-feet wide valve closing.” The incident’s safety significance hasn’t
yet been determined. [Sun
