Florida lawmakers want update on foreclosure attorney probe

Two Florida legislators are seeking news on the status of a state
investigation into the firings of two attorneys who had worked for the
Attorney General against mortgage fraud. “Both women, up until the point
of their dismissal, had been aggressively pursuing mortgage fraud
throughout the state of Florida,” Sen. Eleanor Sobel and Rep. Darren
Soto wrote in a letter dated Sep. 16. The two attorneys were fired more
than a month ago. The two lawmakers said they were also “troubled” that
the state’s Department of Legal Affairs was not “totally divorced” from
the probe, which is being led by CFO Jeff Atwater’s office. [Palm
