Deadline passes as Florida negotiates foreclosure settlement with banks

Florida is continuing to negotiate a foreclosure settlement with major U.S. banks, after a deadline to approve the deal passed on Monday. The deal was rejected by California Attorney General Kamala Harris.  “The settlement under discussions contains all the elements California purports to be looking for: transparency, substantial relief for distressed homeowners and strict enforcement,” said Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. “Florida’s homeowners need relief now, and protracted and uncertain litigation would be contrary to their best interests.” Bondi’s office would not say whether it was holding off on approving the deal.
