South Florida foreclosures up 39 percent this year

There were 3,927 foreclosures filed in South Florida in May this year, according to Condo Vultures, a 42 percent increase from the same month a year ago. Nearly half of the foreclosures, or 1,926 of them, came in Broward County, which continues to lead the three counties in foreclosure filings this year. Overall, 18,256 foreclosures were filed in South Florida through the end of May, a 38.5 percent increase from the same period a year ago. Broward accounts for 48 percent of all those foreclosure, while Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties split the remaining foreclosures nearly equally. — Christopher Cameron
