Mansion squatter frightens posh neighbors, guards hired to “secure the nabe”: VIDEO

The Boca Raton mansion squatter, Andre “Loki Boy” Barbosa, who has been camping out in a $2.5 million home since December, is about to feel the heat. According to the Sun Sentinel, the squatter’s neighbor has hired off-duty Boca police to secure the neighborhood until Loki Boy leaves.

Last week, Barbosa, 23, was served papers seeking his eviction from the five-bedroom, Bank of America-owned home, located along an Intracoastal Waterway canal at 580 Golden Harbour Drive in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Boca Raton. Lyn Houston, who has lived on Golden Harbour Drive since 1977, told the Sentinel that she doesn’t feel like she can enjoy the view of the Intracoastal Waterway behind her home since the squatter moved in.

Barbosa has invoked a Florida state law called adverse possession, which allows someone to gain title to a property if he or she is living there openly, maintaining it and paying the taxes.

“We already know that he’ll break and enter,” Houston said. “I don’t know if he’s armed or not. He’s an unknown and that’s frightening.”

“He doesn’t belong here and someone needs to take charge of the situation,” she added.

Houston has approached Bank of America and made an offer on the property. She also told the Sentinel that she is willing to keep a guard around for 24 hours if her neighbors feel it’s necessary — a $33 an hour expense. [Sun Sentinel]Christopher Cameron
