The highly contentious $400 million renovation plan for the Miami Dolphins’ Sun Life Stadium has scored another important backer: the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association, the South Florida Business Journal reported.

The association said in a statement that its board of directors was nearly unanimous in its support of the stadium upgrades, despite the fact that lawmakers plan to raise the Miami inland hotel tax to 7 percent to help bankroll a $200 million subsidy for the renovation.

“We believe that Sun Life Stadium renovations will not only attract more Super Bowls, but will attract national inter-collegiate athletic competitions, Pan-Am and Olympic-level games and entertainment venues throughout the year,” Raj Singh, the association’s chairman, said in the statement. “It’s imperative that the stadium’s amenities remain competitive.” [SFBJ]Christopher Cameron
