A committee has given the owner of a decrepit marina on the south side of the Miami River the green light to transform it into a place to park mega-yachts.

A subcommittee for the Miami River Commission recommended Homero Meruelo’s project, aptly named the Miami Mega Yacht Marina, be approved to replace the current operation, Brisas del Rio Marina at 1583 Northwest 24th Avenue, Miami Today reported.

A plan for the area the city previously published identified the property as “an ideal location for a mega-yacht boatyard and mixed-use site.” The new marina would feature 16, 200-foot-long canopied slips for luxury boats to call home, as well as covered parking for up to three vehicles, indoor storage and quarters for the captain and crew. [Miami Today] — Angela Hunt
