Industrial Boca to see rental buildings

Boca Raton’s industrial area is seeing new life as residential hot spot.

The City Council has approved 370 residential units in the Arvida Park of Commerce in northwest Boca.

“This will solve some of the issues that our businesses share. We don’t have the right-sized human capital pool in our city,” Boca real estate developer Jamie Danburg, told the Sun-Sentienl. Danburg’s firm hopes to build another rental project in the northwest section of the city. “This is a watershed moment for the city of Boca Raton.”

Vacancies in the industrial area have topped 1.5 million square feet during some periods since the 1990s, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Now, both the city and builders are betting that developing housing for industrial workers will renew corporate interest in the area.

The first phase of residential development is expected to kick off before the end of the year. The project calls for four, two-story apartment buildings, ranging in size from 1,609 to 1,716 square feet per unit. Another block of six, five-story buildings is also going up, with apartments ranging in size from 770 to 1,543 square feet. [Sun-Sentinel] Christopher Cameron
