One more historic mansion on Star Island could soon be destroyed to make way for a new mansion.

Preliminary plans to demolish the 83-year-old, 8,000 square-foot residence at 22 Star Island are currently being reviewed, according to the Miami Herald. Built by Carl Fisher, the home was once the island’s yacht club.

Now homeowner Stuart Miller, CEO of Miami-based homebuilding giant Lennar Corporation, hopes to erect a massive 22,000-square-foot mansion in its place.

Just six months ago, a historic home at 42 Star Island was bulldozed to make way for a 20,000 square foot mansion, generating no end of controversy. And activists are already organizing against the new plans.

An online petition has already gathered nearly 450 signatures to stop the demolition. And activist group Save Miami Beach has organized the petition called “Save 22 Star Island from Demolition.” [Miami Herald]Christopher Cameron
