A new mixed-use boutique hotel is coming to the Miami Worldcenter site.

The venture is the first project planned for Miami Worldcenter’s second phase, according to the Daily Business Review.

Harvey Hernandez, chairman and managing director of Newgard Development Group, told the newspaper his firm is ready to focus more time on other projects. Among those new ventures are a condo-office redevelopment in downtown Miami, a hotel in Fort Lauderdale and “a very cool lifestyle hotel in Miami Worldcenter.”

“It’s going to be half-hotel, half-residences and will be lifestyle heavy: bars, restaurants—a very artistic, very, very cool hotel,” Hernandez said. “What we like here is that we can have the coolest, hippest lifestyle hotel in that area, and we love the fact that we can be close to the convention center.”

The first phase of Miami Worldcenter, which is expected to open in 2017, will include a 235-room hotel, as well as an 1,800-room Marriott Marquis. And more hotel developments are planned just to the south of the project.

Mika Mattingly, a Miami broker who specializes in commercial property, said boutique hotels are currently hot in downtown Miami.

“The European tourists who are going to be pumped in through All Aboard Florida, who are going to be in the area, and who are used to the pedestrian experience, will be creating the demand,” she said. [Daily Business Review]Christopher Cameron
