A newly completed apartment tower in downtown Fort Lauderdale has received its LEED Silver certification.

The 18-story Vu New River, at 510 Southeast Fifth Avenue, features low-emitting materials for the apartments’ interiors, an HVAC system and a recycling program. Thirty-five percent of the building’s electricity comes from renewable energy, according to a press release.

ADD Inc., now with Stantec, completed the 268,237-square-foot project. It includes 209 apartments, a 2,245-square-foot ground floor restaurant and a rooftop amenity deck.

“The contemporary architecture style of Vu New River reflects the diversity of the neighboring towers and those along the New River,” said architect Rachel Cardello, ADD Inc. principal. “The use of horizontal bands, playful patterns and angled balconies create a distinctive architectural vocabulary for the area.”

In February, Vu New River sold to an affiliate of MetLife Real Estate Investors for about $250,000 per unit, or $53 million. Miami-based New River 3 Ventures was the developer. — Katherine Kallergis
