A video game developer and software executive just bought into Mansions at Acqualina, a newly completed condo tower in Sunny Isles Beach.

Joel Hochberg, who reportedly heads several tech companies, purchased unit 3601 at Mansions with his wife Marcia in a deed filed in Miami-Dade County records on Thursday.

They paid $8.35 million for the unit, marking one of the highest prices recorded paid for a unit at the tower since transactions began recording in August. The most expensive unit that has closed so far is No. 3802, two floors above Hochberg’s condo. It was sold for $8.6 million to an LLC managed by a Brazilian couple. To date, 35 units at Mansions have closed, according to county records.

Hochberg was president of Rare, a successful video game development company from the 1990s and early 2000s. The company worked on iconic games like “GoldenEye 007” and “Donkey Kong Country.” Microsoft acquired the company in 2002.

Mansions is a 47-story condo tower located at 17749 Collins Avenue. It was developed by Jules and Eddie Trump — of no relation to presidential candidate Donald Trump — and is the second Acqualina-branded tower to be built. The third, Estates at Acqualina, is expected to open in 2019.
