Thor Equities is leasing space in Wynwood to Smashed Canvas, a pop-up, open-air art installation, beer garden and event venue during Miami Art Week.

The New York-based company, led by Joseph Sitt, told The Real Deal it has leased 2801 Northwest Third Avenue to Minimax for the Smashed Canvas installation. The 105,000-square-foot site includes seven buildings totaling more than 50,000 square feet,  and occupies the majority of the city block between Northwest 28th and Northwest 29th streets and Northwest Second and Northwest Third avenues.

Open through December 6th, Smashed Canvas will present over 20 of the world’s most prominent muralists, who are painting that entire block. Thor said. Brewed Events & Wynwood Map are curating murals created by artists including Alas, Bikismo, James Bullough, Brian Butler, Caratoes, D*Face, Dread, Dulk, Ben Eine, Jeff Gress, Kamea Hadar, Himbad, Hoxx, Hueman, Jonathan Lamb, Otto Schade, Tatiana Suarez, Martin, Whatson, Woes and more.

The space will also feature a large seating area with bars serving craft beers, hand-made cocktails and food, along with a full stage and dance floor/activity area with daily performances from local bands including SunGhosts, Eons, Funkin’ Grateful and Bluejays, Thor said. There will also be special performances from Afrobeta, Wrestlers and more, as well as top DJs including Jeremy Ismael, Brad Strickland, Arremer Jack, Killaka5, Paul E and Patrick Walsch.

Thor Equities has been expanding its holdings in Miami’s Wynwood and the Design District. In September, Thor paid $41.5 million for more than an entire block in Wynwood, a missing piece that gave it one square block and marked the largest deal in the neighborhood. The property, 2800 Northwest Second Avenue, is a 100,000-square-foot corner site running the entire block from Northwest 29th Street to Northwest 28th Street. Thor also owns 2722 Northwest Second Avenue in Wynwood.

Thor is also under contract to pay $43 million, or $1,402 per square foot, for the 30,660-square-foot United States Post Office property at 70 Northeast 39th Street. The property will be redeveloped into a mixed-use project with luxury retail. — Ina Cordle
