    Shared workspace firm Büro has signed a long-term, 10440-square-foot lease at 1815 Purdy Avenue in the Sunset Harbour section of Miami Beach, the company’s second location, the Comras Company announced. The company also has a space in Midtown Miami. Jonathan Carter, director of leasing at Comras Company, handled the transaction for Büro. [more]

    More renowned architects are designing parking garages in Miami Beach, which has become a bastion for championing form in a structure known mostly for its function, the Wall Street Journal noted.

    In addition to Arquitectonica’s planned parking and retail complex in Sunset Harbour and a separate residential development that includes a garage designed by OMA, Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas’ firm, Zaha Hadid will design a $12.5 million, city-financed garage in the Collins Park neighborhood.   • Genting’s Resorts World Miami has officially acquired the Omni complex in downtown Miami, naming Christian Goode president. The deal is the first step in the firm’s plan for the area, and it has now invested $500 million in the project. Goode was most recently CFO of the $880 million Resorts World New York City project in Queens, which opened at the end of last month. Arquitectonica will design the 30-acre Resorts World Miami development, which is slated to have 5,000 room and two residential towers. — Alexander Britell Comments

  • A look at Resorts World Miami

    Genting, which purchased the Miami Herald headquarters earlier this year, released its plans for the resort it intends to build on the site, Resorts World Miami. The resort would cover 10 acres and include a gambling floor, something for which it would need legislative approval. “It took all of two meetings to decide on [the plan],” said Genting Group Chairman and CEO KT Lim. “The more we look at it, the more we like it. It will be the face of Miami.” The designer for the project is Coconut Grove-based Arquitectonica. [Miami Herald]

  • CitiCentre to start building in 2012

    Brickell CitiCentre will begin construction by the second quarter of 2012, according to developer Swire Properties and architect Arquitectonica. “With our Brickell CitiCentre development on the horizon, we are pleased to have assembled a team of local, national and even international consultants to assure Brickell CitiCentre’s design continues to take shape as a game-changer for Miami,” said Swire President Stephen Owens. The Miami office of Kimley-Horn & Associates has also been added to the project team. Kimley-Horn will oversee civil engineering responsibilities. [SFBJ]

  • Seven consulting firms are vying to oversee the overhaul of the Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami Today reported, with a final decision to come from city commissioners in the next two weeks. An evaluation committee is set to meet on July 1 and 5, said Miami Beach Procurement Director Gus Lopez, and the city manager’s recommendation will be presented to the mayor July 13.

    The selected firm will be paid around $100,000 to help find necessary funds, conceptualize a plan, bring in key participants and negotiate terms, Miami Today said. [more]

  • Genting Malaysia Berhad has chosen Miami-based Arquitectonica to design a $3 billion mixed-use project Resorts World Miami. Genting Group Chairman and CEO KT Lim announced the hire last night at an evening reception at Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, according to the Miami Herald.
    The reception was an effort by Malaysia-based Genting to assimilate into the local community three weeks after it bought 19.9 acres of waterfront property occupied by the Herald for $236 million, on which the resort will sit, the Herald said. [more]

  • Architectural firm Arquitectonica unveiled a plan last week for a
    vastly expanded Miami Beach Convention Center. The proposed center
    would have 50 percent more exhibition space, a connection to Lincoln
    Road, and a direct path to South Beach hotels. The plan calls for the
    center to occupy its own 243,000-square-foot parking lot, located
    across Convention Center Drive from the current building. The latest vision for the center, last overhauled in 1989, would include about
    750,000 square feet of exhibition space, a 60,000-square-foot multi-use
    ballroom and a 1,000-room luxury hotel. A master plan for the site is
