The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, which has run a
series of loan modification events for South Florida homeowners, is
beginning what it calls a “National Foreclosure Week of Action.” The
group, led by CEO Bruce Marks, is bringing homeowners to Washington to
urge lawmakers to pressure banks into offering more affordable mortgage
payments. “It is up to Congress to advocate for their constituents,”
Marks said in a statement. The group has previously held events in South
Florida cities including West Palm Beach and Miami Beach. NACA recently announced it would open a permanent office in Miami. [Sun

The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, which just wrapped
up a five-day mortgage modification expo in West Palm Beach,
announced that it would be opening a permanent office in Miami. This
visit was the group’s third to South Florida, with previous events at
the Palm Beach County Convention Center in February and in Miami
Beach in April. CEO Bruce Marks said a permanent office in Miami
could be open within the next two months. The main focus of the office
will be offering low-interest loans to prospective home buyers — the
original reason the group was created in 1988, but it will also have
someone on hand to help with loan modifications. [Miami

About 8,200 households sought help at the Neighborhood Assistance
Corporation of America’s loan
modification expo in West Palm Beach through yesterday afternoon,
fewer than the group had expected. The group began 24-hour-a-day
counseling sessions for homeowners and lenders on Friday morning at the
Palm Beach Convention Center. In February, around 24,000 people
attended, with 16,097 receiving a modification. As of yesterday, though,
just 13,000 people had attended the event. “For us, it doesn’t appear
to be a lot, but it still says something about what’s going on in the
country and South Florida,” said NACA spokesperson Darren Duarte. [Palm

Thousands of people were lined up Friday outside the Palm Beach County
Convention Center, including some by the busload, for the latest
South Florida loan modification expo held by the Neighborhood
Assistance Corporation of America. “I’m here because I have to be,” said
P. Reed, who drove all night to arrive at the center. “They put me in
foreclosure last week.” NACA, which is led by Bruce Marks, receives $500
for each successful loan modification that lasts three months without
default. The group was last in West Palm Beach in February, when its
counselors worked on 24,000 loans and modified 16,097 of them. [Miami

The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, which has held
several large
loan modification expos in South Florida, has postponed its planned
visit for Aug. 13. The Boston-based group, which is also known as NACA,
holds five-day, all-day sessions for struggling homeowners to meet with
on-site bank representatives. The group had been negotiating with the
Palm Beach County Convention Center, but as of Thursday had not secured a
venue in South Florida and was pushing back its visit to a date not yet
determined. During the group’s West Palm Beach event earlier this
year, an estimated 24,330 loans were worked on by NACA, with 7,550
homeowners receiving same-day modifications. [Miami

Bruce Marks’ Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America will return to South Florida for its second loan modification expo, this time at the Miami Beach Convention Center. While the group is funded by the government, banks give it $500 for each successful modifications that last three months without default. In its expo last month in West Palm Beach, the Boston-based NACA counseled more than 24,000 homeowners. This is the group’s 14th such event nationwide. Mortgage modification counselors will be on hand for 24 hours a day during the event, which lasts through Monday. [Miami Herald] Comments
A little over a month after offering a counseling session to more than 24,000 homeowners in West Palm Beach, the non-profit Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America will hold another foreclosure prevention expo, this time at the Miami Beach convention center for five days, starting April 15. The NACA, which receives government funding, offers help on mortgage modifications. The group has sponsored 13 other such events in the U.S. For every successful modification that ends up with the borrower making three on-time payments, banks pay the Boston-based group $500.
