  • Estefans to open Bongos in Hollywood

    December 23, 2010 11:05AM

Gloria and Emilio Estefan have taken the concept of their Bongos nightclub, which is adjacent to the American Airlines Arena, to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The 12,000-square-foot location is smaller than the 16,000-square-foot Miami location, and will be more refined, with an emphasis on Old Havana rather than bright colors and giant pineapples. The Estefans are also exploring a Las Vegas site for the club, which has a location in Orlando as well. [BizBash]

  • Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony seem more Miami than Vero Beach, but reports say she was house hunting on a barrier island near the Treasure Coast city earlier this month. The weekly Vero Beach 32963 said J. Lo, while staying at Costa d’Este, went looking for a sandy retreat down the road from Gloria and Emilio Estefan’s place, friends and fellow minority owners of the Miami Dolphins, and owners of Costa d’Este. So what does this mean for the Icon Brickell in Miami? Anthony told People in September that he had bought a condo there and planned to decorate it and make it “the sexiest place in town!” The Herald noted afterward, however, that the celebs also “allegedly bought the penthouse at Icon South Beach” before the real estate meltdown, but that never materialized.

  • Less than a month after listing a 48,266-square-foot lot at 44 Star Island Drive, Techrin Estates has closed on the property, which has 220 feet of waterfront. It was listed on the firm’s site at $7.25 million. Star Island, part of the City of Miami Beach, is home to a number of celebrities, including Rosie O’Donnell, Gloria Estefan and Sean “Diddy” Combs. Shaquille O’Neal sold his house at 26 Star Island Drive for $16 million in June. That sale made The Real Deal’s top-five residential deals of 2009, when comparable homes had been sold for an average of $6 million. Techrin is also listing a $10 million home at 30 Star Island Drive. TRD

  • Vero Beach a hub of discount luxury

    December 03, 2009 02:42PM

In January, developer Clark French invited 300 investors from Europe, Asia and the Middle East to an open house in Vero Beach. He served Cartier’s private label champagne to sell a lavish estate he built in the Mediterranean Revival style of Addison Mizner’s 1920’s Palm Beach.

It was not your typical Vero Beach real estate sales campaign, but then, neither was the property.

The 16,800-square-foot manse has eight fireplaces, cypress-beamed cathedral ceilings, a cypress-paneled library, a courtyard lap pool and oceanfront pool, a caretaker’s house, guest house and tennis courts. It presides over 15 acres that stretch almost a mile from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian River.

The spec house at 1920 South A1A called La Palmeraie was originally listed for $30 million, the most ever asked for a home in Vero Beach.

But Vero Beach is not Palm Beach. [more]

  • Carlos Justo plans comeback

    August 03, 2009 11:49AM

Carlos Justo, the face of Miami’s real estate boom — and then its bust — wants back in the game. After a multimillion-dollar bankruptcy, the end of his TLC network program “Million Dollar Agents,” and his disappearance from society columns, he’s ready to get back in the real estate business. After doing deals for J-Lo, Shaq, Versace, Gloria Estefan, Sylvester Stallone and Rosie O’Donnell, he seemed poised for continued success. He owned a dozen multimillion-dollar homes and was overextended when the market crashed. Now he’s struggling to pay his attorneys, settle ongoing disputes and regain some of the luster he lost. • The recent revelation that basketball star Shaquille O’Neal finally
sold his mega-manse on swanky Star Island for $16 million — a
substantial discount from the $35 million he once sought — might not
thrill his neighbors. They include Rosie O’Donnell, Gloria Estefan, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs,
Lenny Kravitz and billionaire Phillip Frost, and it’s a safe bet none
would welcome being added to the list of celebrity poster children for
the luxury housing crunch. The sale price of $16 million is a mind-numbing drop of 54 percent from his original list price in 2005 of $35 million. It was a great deal for the buyer, Vladislav Doronin, the Russian
billionaire boyfriend of supermodel Naomi Campbell, but what does that
mean for the market value of neighboring houses? 1 Comment

Jorge Perez, chairman and CEO of the Related Group, will join the Miami

Ross, his partner in the development firm. Perez may also take a

Buffett and Emilio and Gloria Estefan. The Estefans also became
minority owners, with a less than 1 percent stake in the team. [more]
