Contracts for nonresidential and residential future construction in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach metro area are up 62 percent for the year to date, according to data released by McGraw Hill Construction. For the year to date, total contracts have reached $4.73 billion, up from $2.91 billion in the same period in 2011. There is a total of $2.82 billion in contracts for future construction since the beginning of the year, up from $1.94 billion at the same time last year. The total volume of residential and nonresidential construction in South Florida this year represents a 44 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to a report from McGraw-Hill Construction. There has been a total of $696 million in nonresidential construction contracts and $648.6 million in residential construction contracts on a cumulative basis for the year to date. Building contracts in South Florida fell 23 percent last month, according to McGraw-Hill, the South Florida Business Journal reported. There were a total of $169.3 million in building contracts in November, down from $219 million in the same period last year. South Florida’s construction pipeline was down more than 50 percent
year-over-year in May, according to a report from McGraw-Hill.
Construction contracts currently stand at $1.2 billion, a drop from
$2.6 billion in 2008. Residential building contracts, for single-family
homes, duplexes and apartments, fell 54 percent in Miami-Dade, Broward
and Palm Beach counties. Non-residential contracts, for commercial,
manufacturing, education, religious, administrative and other types of
