For the year to date, total contracts have reached $4.73 billion, up from $2.91 billion in the same period in 2011.     Building contracts in South Florida fell 23 percent last month, according to McGraw-Hill, the South Florida Business Journal reported. There were a total of $169.3 million in building contracts in November, down from $219 million in the same period last year. For the year, building contracts are up to $3.02 billion, a 13 percent increase over 2010. [SFBJ] [more]

    year-over-year in May, according to a report from McGraw-Hill.
    Construction contracts currently stand at $1.2 billion, a drop from
    $2.6 billion in 2008. Residential building contracts, for single-family
    homes, duplexes and apartments, fell 54 percent in Miami-Dade, Broward
    and Palm Beach counties. Non-residential contracts, for commercial,
    manufacturing, education, religious, administrative and other types of
