Forest City Ratner
Forest City Ratner, a division of the publicly traded Forest City Enterprises, is one of the most active developers in New York City with a focus on Brooklyn. The parent company, based in Cleveland, Ohio, was founded in 1920 by the Polish immigrant Ratowczer (later changed to Ratner) family. Forest City Ratner has changed the face of Downtown Brooklyn through the development of MetroTech in the 1980s and 1990s and Pacific Park (formerly Atlantic Yards), which has been ongoing. The company was instrumental in bringing major sports and live entertainment to Brooklyn when it spearheaded the plan to build the Barclays Center. In November 2014, Forest City announced plans to build East Harlem's tallest residential towers. The company's East River Plaza Development will consist of three towers, standing 47, 41, and 32 stories tall. Of the 1,100 residential units, 25 percent are expected to list below market rate. The buildings will be built on top of a mall and a parking garage and connected by two sky bridges. In April 2013, MaryAnne Gilmartin was tapped to lead the firm as CEO, taking over from Bruce Ratner.
