Icon Realty Management
Icon Realty Management is a real estate management company with more than 1,800 apartment units throughout New York City, primarily in the Upper and Lower East Side and Greenwich Village. Owned by Terrence Lowenberg and Todd Cohen, the company has a patchy reputation as a landlord. In 2008 rent-stabilized tenants in the East Village accused Icon of harassment when the company repeatedly tried to get them to leave their apartments. In 2010 Icon was sued over allegations of fraud related to the company’s ownership of Gem Hotel in Chelsea. In 2015 Icon had the ignominy of making the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board’s worst landlords list. That same year Icon was sued for wrongful eviction after it attempted to kick out the restaurant at one of its East Village properties destroyed by a gas explosion. Icon has been active in the Upper East side as well, buying up blocks of properties in the 80s (and evicting longtime restaurants there to redevelop the buildings).
