    Macklowe Properties is a leading landlord and developer of commercial and residential properties in New York City, which lost a significant portion of his office building portfolio during the 2008-2009 recession. Harry Macklowe is the founder and chairman.

    Its myriad past properties have include the 2 million-square-foot General Motors office tower in Midtown that includes the 20,000-square-foot flagship Apple store; the 88-unit ThreeTen East 53rd Street condo; the 350,000-square-foot 510 Madison Avenue office building; and 340 Madison Avenue, an office building of 750,000 square feet.

    Macklowes projects as of spring 2014 include the 125-unit condo 432 Park Avenue, at 1,398 feet, one of the tallest residential buildings in the world; the 20-story 737 Park Avenue condo; and the 12-story 150 East 72nd Street condo.

    Macklowe Properties dates from the mid-1960s, when Macklowe, a commercial broker, started the firm. The firm faced profound financial troubles at the end of the last decade, when Macklowe struggled to pay off loans associated with a $7 billion office-portfolio purchase in 2007.

    Macklowe's son, Billy Macklowe, was chairman and CEO of the firm when he left in 2010 to found the William Macklowe Company.
