Thor Equities is a privately-held real estate firm founded in 1986 by Brooklyn native Joseph Sitt. It invests in assets in the United States, Europe, and Latin America with a focus on retail in major cities. It is known in New York City for its ownership and redevelopment of scores of retail properties in major shopping districts and corridors such as Soho, Madison Avenue, and Fifth Avenue. The firm has a retail brokerage arm called Thor Retail Advisors. Thor Equities, which buys properties using several large investment funds, focuses on development and redevelopment of retail properties, to either lease up or sell. Major projects include the ground up construction and leasing to Samsung of 837 Washington Street in the Meatpacking District, in a partnership with Taconic Investment Partners, as well as the 2010 purchase of the retail and office building at 693 Fifth Avenue. –AP
