Tishman Speyer is a real estate development firm and landlord founded in 1978 by Jerry Speyer and his father-in-law, Robert Tishman. The firm owns properties across the United States, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The trophy of its portfolio is Rockefeller Center, a complex of office buildings in six square blocks between Fifth Avenue and the Avenue of the Americas, from 48th to 51st Streets, which it acquired in 1996, with a group of investors that included Goldman Sachs. In 2001, another partnership led by Tishman Speyer bought out the other owners of 30 Rock, as Rockefeller Center is also known, for $1.85 billion. The sale marked the end of the Rockefeller familys involvement with the property. Its 2006 acquisition of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper was less successful, with the lenders on the deal taking it over following debt defaults. -GB
