Westbrook Partners is a privately held real estate investment firm headquartered in New York City with around $20 billion in its investment portfolio. It has offices in Washington, D.C., Palm Beach, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Europe and Japan. The firm is best known in New York for its acquisition of controlling or total stakes in major commercial properties. For instance, in early 2015, Westbrook picked up near-total control of the office buildings at 1375 Broadway and 31 Penn Plaza. About six months before this, Westbrook picked up the Standish Hotel in Brooklyn Heights for $60 million. Westbrook has faced severe and well-publicized pushback from tenants and government officials in London for rent hikes and allegedly sluggish repairs at properties it has acquired. The firm has also faced legal scrutiny closer to home, where New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman ordered Westbrook and its partner, Normandy Real Estate, to fire property managers and to make repairs. Paul D. Kazilionis started Westbrook in 1994 and is its CEO. The firm's headquarters are at 645 Madison Avenue.
