Elie Hirschfeld is the principal and president of privately held New York City ownership and development group Hirschfeld Properties. He grew the concern from one built solely around the development, ownership and management of parking garagesHerschfelds father, Abraham, was known as a the citys Garage King (as well as, briefly, the publisher of the New York Post)into one that develops, owns and manages rental and commercial buildings, including more than 1,000 apartments. Elie Hirschfeld joined the family firm in 1976. Since he has spearheaded the development of such properties in its portfolio as the Grand Sutton, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Park Avenue Court, the Gotham, and Exchange Tower. In 1995, he oversaw the redevelopment of the historic Hotel Pennsylvania, which brought the first Sports Authority to New York. He also managed the development of New Yorks first-ever open-air parking garage. Aside from real estate, Hirschfeld has produced and co-produced Broadway shows through his Hirschfeld Productions; and votes annually on the selection of Tony winners.
