Joseph Harbert
Joseph Harbert is a president responsible for the Boston-to-Washington-D.C eastern region at Colliers International, a commercial real estate services firm. He joined Colliers in May 2012. From 2004 to 2012, Harbert worked at Cushman & Wakefield, most recently as the firms chief operating officer for the New York tristate region. From 2003 to 2004, he worked at CB Richard Ellis, where he managed the integration of Insignia/ESG into the firm. CBRE awarded him the Colbert prize in recognition for training managers. From June 1996 to July 2003, Harbert worked at Insignia/ESG, where he rose to the position of chief operating officer responsible for New York, New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester, and Fairfield counties. Harbert also worked at the predecessor of I/ESG, the Edward S. Gordon Co. He got his start in the real estate industry at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), where he worked in the 1980s as a director of real estate, responsible for the leasing, development, acquisition, and management of the MTAs portfolio. He came to the MTA from the New York City Board of Education, where he was an Executive Assistant, and before that, a third and fourth grade teacher. In 1983, Harbert received a PhD in political science from City University of New York (CUNY). He has masters degrees, from New York University and CUNY. He received a BA from San Francisco State College.  -MK
