I have the unfortunate luck of having to shop at the Gristedes supermarket on 1st Ave and 20th St. This place is the absolute worst-run supermarket anywhere: it's dirty, it's run down, the food is often on the shelf right up to the expiration date (bread and milk included) and the merchandise is very often mis-priced, reported sales items end up not being on sale. I haven't bought any broken 'terminals' or other stuff from Bloomberg LLC so I'm not pissed off at Mayor Mike. But I would NEVER vote for CATSIMATIDIS for anything. As a very, very rich man, he should take greater care of those who shop at his stores and stop nickeling and diming those of us on fixed incomes.

To be fair, the Gristedes supermarket on 1st Ave & 20th Street just finished undergoing a facelift of sorts, and the place looks much cleaner and inviting. They installed new flooring and rearranged many of the isles and shelving. It's a good start, one that was in urgent need for quite a while. We just hope that management can keep the soon-to-be-expired food off the shelves and keep their pricing accurate. Their customers would greatly appreciate any efforts in this effort.

Yes the store is looking much better after the renovations. For many years it has been a terrible grocery shopping experience. Let's hope the attitude of some of the workers can be improved as well. Rick Bryan New York, NY

Just shopped at a Gristedes in Chelsea. 8th Ave & 21 St. A large number of milk containers on the shelves was dated for June 19th, which is now expired. What is wrong with management at Catsimatidis's stores? Seems that the experience of the anonymous post above is not isolated. Wake up Gristedes' management!!!

Gristedes routinely skims off the backs of working New Yorkers - low through middle income folks. Witness the Gristedes in Washington Heights. Half the time I shop there I have been over-charged for items clearly marked sale or a lower price on displays. I have no shame in holding up a line to correct these "mistakes". Nickel and dime-ing a shopper multiplied times the hundreds of thousands of souls who step into those stores helps pad the pockets John Catsimatidis. How does the exceptionalism of billionaire status relate to the mediocrity of a NYC Gristedes, where's the connection??

Gristedes should go the way of Dagostinos...Even with the face lift the 1st Ave store is filthy, has poorly trained staff with horrible people skills...nothing like getting a sour look from the cashier even when you say hello at the end of the day.

Couldn't agree with #7 more. For the prices they charge Gristedes should at least keep the stores clean and in-shape. I have been less than 10 times in my life and am offended every time. Who keeps these stores in business? You could shop at Whole Foods for less!
