Stella D'oro factory in Bronx to close this fall

July 06, 2009 06:00PM

The Stella D'oro factory on West 237th Street in the Bronx will close in October, the baked goods company's owners announced today. Brynwood Partners, a Greenwich, Conn.-based private equity company that purchased Stella D'oro in 2006, made the decision to close the factory. A federal judge last week ordered the company to reinstate 134 workers who had been on strike since mid-August. The company's owners had demanded wage and benefit reductions to make the factory profitable. The company's operations will move elsewhere after the factory closes, a company statement indicated.

Good. I hope the operation relocates to a right-to-work state and starts making a larger profit. One of these days union sheep will wake up and realize their masters have no interest in them.

How stupid are these strikers? what the hell do want? the rest of us don't have unions, deal with it like an adult. You don't like it, leave the job.........and now NO ONE will have a job because you made it too difficult for the owners of the company..memo to you: this is a BUSINESS , they can move too and they did .....and yo u have nothing.........shmucks

Yes, Americans need to realize that in this economy keeping a stable job sometimes requires concessions. All doing our part and that sort of thing. That being said, I would just like to know where Brynwood is moving Stella D'oro to...Because I could find no article or press release saying that Brynwood would even keep Stella D'oro in the United States. In an article in the N.Y. Times: “The decision to close the Bronx bakery operations has not been made in haste or without significant planning,” a statement from the management said. It was very precisely left out as to WHERE they're moving. It may not just be stubborn Americans who are out of the Stella D'oro company, but rather ALL Americans... If anybody knows where they're moving, I'd like to know.
