The city is moving ahead on its plan to reopen and expand the Brooklyn House of Detention, at 275 Atlantic Avenue between Smith Street and Boerum Place. The city Department of Design and Construction entered into a $32.5 million deal with architecture firm Ricci Greene Associates to transform the prison into a 1,469-inmate facility with ground-floor retail. The 11-story jail closed in 2003, and the renovation and expansion plan will cost $440 million. [Brooklyn Paper]
