Designer Betsey Johnson buys in UES

Clothing designer Betsey Johnson bought an 850-square-foot Upper East Side condominium earlier this month for $1.8 million, according to property records posted today. The 10th-floor, one-bedroom apartment at the 30-story tower at 30 East 85th Street includes a terrace. Johnson has been trying to sell her duplex penthouse loft at 45 Fifth Avenue near Union Square since last fall when Curbed.com reported it was being offered for $3.6 million. It is now listed at $2.49 million.
