Rockaway Beach Boulevard Firehouse rendering
The New York City Economic Development Corporation has selected the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance to redevelop the former Rockaway Beach Boulevard Firehouse at 58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Queens. The environmental advocacy and educational organization plans to spend about $2 million to create the Rockaway Institute for Sustainable Environment, which will be the organization's permanent home. The alliance currently operates out of local schools and other community spaces. The Rockaway Waterfront Alliance plans to build a hall for projects and events, catering facilities, and an organic cafe in the 78-year-old former firehouse, in addition to classrooms and rental space for community events.
