Building One, Atlantic Yards
Frank Gehry's "Miss Brooklyn," the signature tower planned for Atlantic Yards, has been cut from 620 to 511 feet. The tower's redesign also drops a housing component, making it strictly commercial, and the name has been changed to "B1" or Building One. Gehry was upbeat about the changes, which come as developer Bruce Ratner vows to get the struggling mega-project back on track, after conceding serious delays. "My enthusiasm for Atlantic Yards has grown and grown until arriving at our current design, which works better with the surrounding area than it ever had before," Gehry told the Daily News. Gehry called the redesign "more festive, resulting in a very unique office building." The tower will have 650,000 square feet of office space. Its planned residential units will be built elsewhere.
