The Municipal Arts Society said its new planning initiative for Coney Island is not an effort to compete with the city's plan, but rather is a brainstorming activity for the site's entertainment section. In addition to the design group selected by the society, there will be a Web-based call for ideas and concepts for the entertainment section, which has been scaled down to nine acres from the original plan of 18 acres. All that the MAS is doing is further confusing an already-confused public on the future of Coney Island. MAS is a group of elitists.. and one can judge that by their suggestion that the NYC Ballet takes up resience in Coney Island, or that they are holdikng their press conference at BAM, which is far removed from Coney Island and quite a different kind of enterprise. The press will be further confused, and the public will be even more confused. And, to our knowledge, they have not had a real meeting with the Community Board which should have been the first step.
