The Municipal Art Society will award Renzo Piano's New York Times
Building near Times Square and Frank Gehry's IAC Building in Chelsea as
the city's best new buildings tonight at its annual Masterworks Awards.
The six awards were for projects completed in 2007.
Also winning were the Diane von Furstenberg Studio Headquarters for fashion design in the Meatpacking District and the Museum at Eldridge Street, for the restoration of an 1887 synagogue.
The Floating Pool and the New Museum of Contemporary Art in the Lower East Side won for outstanding neighborhood catalysts.
The pool, created from a former barge and known as the Floating Pool Lady, was docked in Brooklyn Heights last summer and is headed for the Bronx this year.
The ceremony will be held at the IAC Building. The society has been giving the awards since 2001.
