Willets Point

Following the local community board's approval of the city's Willets Point redevelopment plan, albeit with a list of conditions. The borough president, Helen Marshall, is expected to approve it today. Both the community board and Marshall's votes are nonbinding and advisory. Opponents of the deal called the community board's vote "tantamount to a rejection" because of all the stipulations for approval, but said that the plan would never get through the city council. Queens council members John Liu, Hiram Monserrate and Tony Avella all oppose the plan and have promised to stop it at the public review stage.  [Sun]
