The Real Deal gets exclusive tour of Schnall's Tribeca house
April 20, 2009 02:30PM
The 11,000-square-foot home that New York Mortgage Company founder Steven Schnall and his wife Sherri are looking to sell for $33 million at 2 North Moore Street in Tribeca will be the most expensive single-family home below 14th Street if it sells for its asking price. On this week's Webcast, The Real Deal gets an exclusive tour of the property, which has a pool, garage, and elevator. Schnall said he believes, despite the economy, that "it's priced fair," adding, "some days I think we're priced low compared to what's out there." The Schnalls also respond to the hubbub their past comments incited among real estate bloggers. To hear what else the Schnalls and their broker, Deborah Grubman, had to say about the property, click on the video below.

The name of this street is often written as "North Moore," but it is "N. Moore," named after a person. I'm not sure of the name. It may be Nathaniel Moore. Does anyone have that answer?

WRONG YOU BOTH ARE! From The New York Times: F.Y.I. By DANIEL B. SCHNEIDER Published: Sunday, July 25, 1999 Q. Television reports have referred to John F. Kennedy Jr.'s apartment on ''North Moore Street'' in TriBeCa. Isn't N. Moore Street named for Nathaniel Moore? A. N. Moore Street was named for Benjamin Moore, who was president of Columbia College and Episcopal Bishop of New York in the early 19th century. He was also the father of Clement Clarke Moore, author of ''A Visit From St. Nicholas.'' Since a Moore Street already existed at the southern tip of Manhattan, ''north'' was added to avoid confusion. It has been hypothesized that Moore Street was originally called ''Moor Street'' because of the ships that anchored there. Nathaniel Moore, for whom no streets are named, was president of Columbia College from 1842 until 1849. DANIEL B. SCHNEIDER
