alternate textFrom left to right: Barack Obama, Mort Zuckerman, Amir Korangy and Darcy Stacom made the New York Observer Power 100 list.
The Real Deal's Amir Korangy made the New York Observer's Power 100 list of the most powerful people in New York real estate, released today. President Barack Obama ranks first on the list, which includes politicians, developers and brokers, followed by Stephen Ross, CEO of the Related Companies, and Mort Zuckerman, chairman and CEO of Boston Properties. Twelve women made the list, including Corcoran Group CEO Pamela Liebman, Elliman CEO Dottie Herman and CB Richard Ellis Vice Chairman Darcy Stacom. The Observer also held a poll inviting readers to vote for the most powerful people in New York real estate, and The Real Deal's Web editor, Lauren Elkies, was named the city's most powerful real estate blogger.

I know Amir Korangy. He is one of the most interesting and intelligent people in this city; and by far, one of the nicest.

Agreed with all of the above.

Way to go Amir. You should be no.1 on the list, what did Obama ever do for NY real estate.

Obama does have the power, the power to crater the market with more irresponsible spending leading to soaring inflation and higher interest rates which will make property values here fall even further.

The lists are useful, because they get to highlight the players in the market.

Trump Soho is a big fat failure. Why are they giving him credit for a failure? That building is going to sit empty for years. I twill decay and they be demolished. I would say Trump should be on a list of failures in real estate.

To have a top real estate list and not have Donald Trump on there would seem incomplete. I don't care about all of his problems, the guy is still in the top 100. Come on people.

Trump's been written off as done before and he always comes back

Observer

I agree that some of the people on that list had no business being on any sort of a list, but to say Trump doesn't belong in the top 100 most powerful real estate people in the city would not be smart.

Trump should not be the list cause Ivanka is porking Jared Kushner the publisher of the list. That's the only reason he moved up on the list.

The Trump name is so uncool in NYC. Ask the people. Don't just ask other realtor types. Most of NYC really hates Trump and the ugly cheap overly glitzy buildings he builds that ruin NYC.

Why is Obama on that list? He has done nothing for New York City real estate.

i agree with #18. trump is gross and his nouveau riche esthetic is repulsive. now we are stuck with crappy trump architecture blemishing the nyc landscape.

anyone from Tishman Speyer should not be on the list. is the new york observer unaware of the debacle stuyvesant town? jesus! all you foolish real estate types love to message each other regarless of the truth.

How about a list of the NYC real estate guys who've lost the most money in the downturn.

Comment #15 Posted By: Anonymous 06/03/09

#23, that's a great idea and probably a much more interesting list.

Who cares what a rag like The Observer has to say? Their levels of unsubstantiated, irresponsible journalism as practiced by the amateurs who write for this intellectually impoverished, gossipy publication reach new lows with every issue.

Iww. Why are Dottie Hermann and Pam Liebman on there? They are horrible to consumers, refusing to involve their properties in an MLS. That's good for NYC real estate? Get real.

What about Erez Itzhaki

Bravo #18 - beautifully said! The Observer is bathroom reading, period.

Herman and Liebman are there because the list is about the most "powerful" people in real estate, no the "best" or most ethical". It would be hard to find a top ten for that list never mind 100.

Why isn't Rockrose or Donald Zucker of Manhattan Skyline on list list????? They are the quiet old timers that own ridiculous amounts of PRIME NYC REAL ESTATE... Elad porperties can also make a case to make the top 100.....

I think Trump buildings are terrorist targets. If a terrorist bombed a Trump building they would get lots of publicity. Therefore, I would never buy anything in a Trump property.

Comment #26 Posted By: Anonymous 06/04/09

brokers?

Per usual with this sort of list, they have grossly over estimated the importance of brokers because among the various participants, they are the most visible and eager to be in the media. There should not be any brokers or heads of brokerages in the top 25 - they don't actually make meaningful decisions. They advise a little, but really they just facilitate and disseminate info. They are all pretty replaceable.

what about joseph chetrit? the chetrits have been snatchin up tons of property in nyc for years now
