Where in the world did Shvo go?

July 02, 2009 06:15PM
Michael Shvo

From the July issue: No one personified the excesses of mid-2000s New York City quite like Michael Shvo. The slick-haired Israeli émigré burst onto the real estate scene in 1998, an audacious 20-something who quickly climbed the ranks of Manhattan's biggest sales firms before starting his own, self-titled new development marketing company. Famous for his bad-boy antics, celebrity-studded parties and inspired collaborations with the likes of Philippe Starck, Giorgio Armani and Jade Jagger, Shvo became synonymous with the over-the-top condo amenities — and prices — of the era.

Much like the New York City condo market, Shvo's rise has been followed by an equally spectacular fall. The credit crisis has turned once sought-after new condos into the black sheep of the real estate industry, and the few buyers who are still looking at new construction seem to care only about getting a good deal. Celebrity connections and glamorous "lifestyle" amenities are now, as it were, out of vogue. more

He's rich

Why cant people accept the fact that he's successful ? He didnt own buildings, how can he be broke ? He was a marketer, making commission on sales ? How could he be broke ?

Smart focused and on the ball. If I was him I'd never be heard from again as I worked hard made millions and now can enjoy life. Go Michael go.

#2 - he may not have owned "buildings" but he owned plenty of units in overpriced new construction condos.

Loved it when he took credit AS the developer - as if he was building the project. Made Trump look modest.

Indeed, becoming a media commentator is a good career segue for the truth-impaired.

still has the W downtown. a wonderful project teamed with the master builder Joseph Moinian. The W New York-Downtown Hotel & Residences is a 57-story tower rising at the southern edge of New York City’s World Trade Center Memorial Site, one block from the planned Freedom Tower, at 123 Washington Street. The first luxury hotel and residential tower to be built in Lower Manhattan, it is also the first new project not part of the WTC complex to begin construction since 9/11

Shvo It Off! W Downtown Condos On Sale Nov. 7 View Story On One Page Print This Story Share This Story By Tom Acitelli October 26, 2007 | 2:04 p.m We just got an email from Shvo, the marketing firm run by the redoubtable Michael Shvo, to say that the condos inside the future W New York Downtown will go on sale Nov. 7. The Observer broke the news in March of Mr. Shvo's work on the tower at 123 Washington Street, which is being developed by Joseph Moinian. The tower will include 222 condos and 217 hotel rooms. Shvo is also marketing the condos at 20 Pine The Collection, another financial district creation that's helping change the neighborhood, for better or for worse

Where ever he's sitting at least he made it happen. He became a broker, gave u the smoke and mirrors, spent money heavily on advertisement that I'm sure wasnt free, yet he's a loser? All are these comments from agents that have done anything like him at his level or brokers that wish they can be like him

Ambition, Creativity & Focus = Million$. In the final analysis, that's why we are all here talking about him. Like him or Hate him, you have to tip your hat to the man. He is the true definition of the termTrail Blazer.

#38 - Didn't you see the Nightline interview? He prefers Brioni.. It's hard to think that a guy, in such a short amount of time, could make himself look more like a tool than Shvo did in his Nightline interview - although Julian Schnable gives him a run for his money with his 60 Minutes debacle.

The guy is talented no doubt. The experience will make him humble. If he learns to treat people with respect--this might be a good experience for him. I think there were a lot of over-inflated egos in NY. A little deflating might do every one a little good!

Shvo is buying Corcoran and will revive them so they fdon't fail further under u know who!

He made a ton of money. He is definitely not broke. The guy never has to worry about making money if that's your concern, he made a boatload.

Once again more censorship from Real Deal. At least when you cut out people's responses you could ensure that the comment post numbers don't change. It's hard to know what the guy in the new #20 spot is referring to in comment #38.

I cant believe how many comments were cut out I feel like I am back in a communist country What did you guys expect - no comments on a HUGE PERSONA like this ? Why to have even a comments section ? Why dont you just get rid of it ? That may work. As I said Shvo is laughing at us because here we all are still paying him attention and he is right !!!!! Please everyone go into the MLS and check for yourself how many listings there are - signed contracts and active by SHVO and then get back to me and tell me he is broke and gone. Please dont cut me out.

Where is the cartoon from before - did some huge personality complain about ridiculing Michael and it had to be replaced by the pretty boy shot ? Thats really just too much.

Brace yourselves - They're about to announce Shvo's new job as governor of Alaska.

Where did the comments go? Censorship is not a good thing TRD. Don't ask for our opinions (which increase you page views) only to delete them. They were not even that bad.....
