1 Hanson Place
Manhattan promoter Jennifer Blumin is leasing the landmarked ground floor lobby of the Williamsburgh Savings Bank building, at 1 Hanson Place, and plans to use the space as a catering hall for weddings and other large events. The space, located on the ground floor of the historic 37-story skyscraper in Fort Greene, was most recently an HSBC Bank branch. Now, the lofty space with vaulted ceilings and marble tables will be available for events starting at $15,000 a night, which Blumin calls "Brooklyn-sensitive pricing." Her permits are not finalized yet, but Blumin hopes to have a capacity for 1,000 people in the 15,000-square-foot location. One Hanson Place was converted into a residential building in 2006 by Dermot Company and the Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds. [Brooklyn Paper]

NO PARKING AVAILABLE
The Atlantic Yards is 2 or 3 blocks away from here. Her sucess will depend on whether or not that stadium gets built allowing for after-parties to be host there. As always, good luck finding parking in that area. No one with any sense will travel the 2,3,4 or 5 train from the city in expensive attire to this place.

Quick comments: - Catering hall makes this undertaking seem a tad downmarket. Given that Jennifer Blumin has both Skylight Studios and Skyline Galleries & Studios under her belt -- the former being the home of the annual Whitney Art Party -- I think it's a stretch to imagine a buffet line of poorly-coiffed yokels hosting their events here. - Also, she's not a promoter; she's a space manager with expertise in re-imagining new lives for under-loved spaces. (Skylight, for example, used to be a meeting place for a Longshoreman association; Skyline used to be a parking garage.) Promoters usually have their own guest lists and profit in some way off of attendance. Blumin's not courting the market of promoted parties in the space, and she's never promoted parties in Manhattan. Rather she rents spaces to clients who market and produce their individual events, fashion shows, product launches etc. - $15K is the MSRP; Bklyn appropriate pricing for local private events, weddings, etc. will be made available. - The parking garage for Target, etc. is 1/2 a block away...
