Contemplating a West Side without a stadium

In a few short hours Monday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s shared dream of a West Side stadium for the 2012 summer Olympics and for the New York Jets evaporated. First, the International Olympics Committee issued a report that, while favorable toward New York’s chances for landing the Games, cited a lack of an Olympic-sized stadium. About three hours later, state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who controls one of three votes on a state board that must unanimously approve public funding for the stadium, announced he would never support such a stadium.
