West Street expansion to start in 2007

A $265 million project to add a northbound and a southbound lane to make West Street near Ground Zero eight lanes again is set to begin in April 2007, state officials said Thursday. The stretch between Liberty and Vesey streets has had only three lanes in each direction since September 11. The expansion is part of a larger push to improve the streetscape in the Ground Zero area in anticipation of fresh development like the Freedom Tower and the new Goldman Sachs headquarters. more [NYDN]
