First the buildings, then the artists

Developers in Jersey City and Orange, NJ, are taking a backward approach to drawing artists. They’re converting warehouse-style buildings into lofts and studios, hoping to entice artists and people who want to live near them. In Orange, for instance, the city and a nonprofit developer want to create an arts district on the city’s border by converting about 30 big empty factories and warehouses. more [NYT]
