Household debt offset by appreciation

Rising home values nationwide helped offset a first-quarter increase in average household debt, according to recent Federal Reserve numbers. Household debt grew at an 11.6 percent annual rate in the first quarter, but housing appreciation, among other factors, spurred a 2.7 percent growth in net worth during the same quarter among American households. more [WSJ]
