Transit projects get federal funding

Two area transit projects that have been planned for decades, but time and time again postponed due to lack of cash, are finally getting federal funding. Federal Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters has given final approval for the release of $2.6 billion in federal money for the construction of the Second Avenue subway line and a connection for the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Terminal. more [NYT]
