Bronx pool landmarked

The Landmarks Preservation Commission voted unanimously last week to designate the Crotona public swimming pool in the South Bronx a historic landmark. At the meeting to vote for its status, the LPC called it “one of New York’s greatest architectural feats of the Depression era.” The 925,000-gallon pool was one of 11 built in New York under the Works Progress Administration in the summer of 1936. Two others, the Astoria Park Pool and the Jackie Robinson Bath House, were granted landmark status previously this year. more [NYDN]
