Subprime crisis spoils Bronx holiday cheer

The holiday season figures to be grim for many Bronx business owners
and homeowners who could lose their homes to foreclosure. The borough’s
Williamsbridge neighborhood has been hit especially hard, with those in
the hardware or home furnishings business saying that business has
plummeted by 50 percent or more. The Bronx office of the Neighborhood
Housing Services agency, on the other hand, has had a steady stream of
clients looking for ways to prevent foreclosure or soften its blow.
