Construction workers honor 13 dead

April 28, 2008 09:02AM

Several construction sites will be shut down this afternoon as construction workers around the city plan to attend a 2 p.m. Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral honoring the 13 workers who have died on the job this year. The figure is already one more than last year’s death total. Today marks the beginning of Construction Safety Week, which promotes workers’ rights and safety through workshops and events. The city Department of Buildings is now led by acting commissioner Robert LiMandri, after the resignation of Commissioner Patricia Lancaster last week.
