DOB crackdown doubles stop-work orders 

Following 14 construction-related deaths in the first four months of 2008, the number of stop-work orders issued nearly doubled to 1,403 in April, compared to 785 in January. Acting Buildings Commissioner Robert LiMandri, who replaced Patricia Lancaster last month, says the DOB is not going out of its way to slow down work at sites.
