Thrift store opening its first NYC shop in Kingsbridge

New York City’s first branch of the second-hand shop Unique Thrift Store will open in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx in late June.

The store will occupy 218 West 234th Street at Broadway, which formerly housed an Annie Sez clothing retailer.

Unique Thrift Stores specialize in gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, as well as home décor items, toys, books, music and knick knacks.

The family-owned company has 17 stores in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, but it recently made inroads in New Jersey, and company president Dave Kloeber said Kingsbridge, with neighboring Riverdale nearby, was the right place to break into New York City.

“We’ve been very, very well received coming up through New Jersey,” said Kloeber, who added the Kingsbridge store would “the first one of many.”
