New storefronts in Coney Island

Coney Island’s vacant storefronts are turning into restaurants, clothing shops and stores that will be ready for the summer crowds, bringing the first new businesses to the amusement area in years. Restaurants, including the Surf Cafe, Bigga-Jerkey and Suzie Q’s, have opened on Surf Avenue within the last three weeks, and Zoo York is set to open soon on Bowery Street. The new businesses are coming at a time when many feared that Coney Island would be virtually abandoned during a looming redevelopment.
