Wineries grow in Brooklyn

More commercial wineries are opening up in Brooklyn. Bridge Urban Winery just opened up beneath the Williamsburg Bridge; California winemaker Abe Schoener has set up shop in Red Hook; Allie Sharper of Greenpoint-based Brooklyn Oenology is looking to mover her winery from Long Island to the city. Brooklyn is a good location for wineries, the winemakers say. “There is plenty of fruit not far away,” Sharper said. “Long Island is to New York what Napa is to San Francisco. And there are fine vineyards in the Hudson Valley and Finger Lakes region.”
